The August edition of the Singapore Poetry Slam is all red & white.
About this event
In Autobiography of Red, the poet Anne Carson writes, “I will never know how you see red and you will never know how I see it.” The same can be said for white. Combined, they have a special significance for Singapore every August. We encourage poets and artists to express themselves metaphorically and generally as well: think Red Queen/White Queen, red wine/white wine, strawberries and cream, bold red lips paired with pearly white teeth, red brides and white grooms, red and white blood cells, Code Red or Code White – anything. Your choice. Or write separate red and white poems. Don’t have any red/white poems ready? You can still present anything you like. Meanwhile, anyone performing or in the audience can dress for the occasion.
This month we are very happy to feature our new friends to the slam – ‘Syncroony,’ a tremendous ten-person choir. They will make your hearts throb with their songs dressed in red or white. It you take photographs and videos please hashtag us @ #poetryslamsg
DA SLAM AND OPEN MIC RULES: Slammers compete in up to 3 rounds – one poem per round of up to 3 minutes each. No music backing allowed during the slam. Slam Judges will be selected from the audience. Points deducted from 3:10min
